Who We Are

Like all the best stories, ours is a love story. Love for each other, love for family, love for travel, love for food.

I started making gelato in 2019. Before that I'd been a soldier, waiter, short-order cook, scholar, teacher, writer, book and online editor, electrician, publishing consultant, food editor and recipe writer. After spending 4 years as an at-home dad, I decided to pursue my lifelong love for food and cooking. Marriage had taught me that making your partner smile was as important as making great food, and becoming a father had taught me that creating memories meant as much as creating something delicious, and I wanted to share that with others.

Monika is an entertainment attorney, career coach, and business and start-up consultant. During a trip to Portugal, she stood with me and our toddler son in a gelato shop. As we looked over all the amazing gelato options, Monika, who has a dairy allergy looked at her choices: sorbet. Always sorbet. Lemon. Always lemon. If she was lucky that day, also mango. She looked with longing at our gelato. "If only," she sighed.

I hated that sigh. I wanted her to smile.

So I got the idea for The Sweetest So.

We make artisanal small-batch gelato, sorbetto, and popsicles for everyone. We make dairy gelato, of course, but not everyone can or wants to eat dairy, so for them we make creamy, rich, nondairy gelato in all the colors of the flavor rainbow. Because no one should walk into a gelato shop and leave with a sigh.

Our flavors tell stories—are inspired by places we've traveled, meals we've eaten, holidays we love, moments we want to remember, memories made sweet and shared. Flavors like Beach Bonfire Chocolate, Turkish Rose Rice Pudding, Island Breeze Colada, Golden Turmeric with Candied Blood Oranges, Malted Milk Chocolate Easter Egg, Breakfast on Santorini, Pink Lady, and Death By Rocky Road. With more and new flavors coming all the time! Our memories made sweet and shared with you! 

Because there's no better way to punctuate a joyful moment than with a gelato smile!

You can find us in Citizen Market at Hunters Station in East Nashville, at Sperry's Mercantile in Belle Meade, and we will soon be available at other select markets and cafes. Additionally you can order and schedule pick-up and delivery through our site, our Facebook and Instagram pages, or NextDoor.

What We Make

Gelato & Sorbetto

We use the best fresh and organic ingredients to make vegan and dairy-based gelato and sorbetto. We specialize in inventive and custom flavors and spin 4 to 6 new flavors each month. Our flavors are inspired by what's in season, by the season itself, by suggestions from customers, from our travels around the world. We design flavors to celebrate holidays. We design flavors to celebrate people. We let ourselves wander, wondering always, hm, how would that taste?

Gelato Pops

For anyone on the go, or simply not in the mood to eat with a spoon, we have gelato pops! Perfectly sized individual servings that go great after dinner and an espresso. We offer our usual selection of inventive and unique flavors...but dipped in chocolate or peanut butter or caramel, crusted with nuts, doused in sprinkles, or dusted with spices.

Gelato Pies

Our gelato pies are made to order and available for special occasions and holidays. Made with graham cracker or pecan crusts.
